At its simplest sustainability is the concept that the human race needs to interact with the planet in ways that make sure there will be enough resources left for future generations, avoiding the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance. Here at Towens we are trying to do our bit to help less raw materials being used to allow the UK economy to function and to grow.

The more that we can stop going to landfill means that the rest is being put to good use which for us is 92% of the waste that we deal with.

We are a part of the circular economy which emphasises five areas of sustainability recycle, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recover in order to preserve raw materials as much as possible. An area of development for us is the recycled aggregates plant that we are creating in Westonzoyland that will have an impact in reducing the need for new quarried sand and stone in Somerset.

Sustainability is also about thinking long-term and planning for how things may change in the future. That has been hard over the past couple of years but at Towens we have continued to invest in the future of the business and our people.
