Projects

We have completed several projects for Bristol Golf Club including the preparation and construction of a concrete base and associated landscaping for new driving range bays plus Improvements to golf course landscaping, car parks and roadways.

Towens has carried out a number of small projects for Smith Brewer including drainage works for both foul and surface water, tarmac surfacing, timber fencing and kerbing. We have also removed excavated fill, installed septic tanks and associated pipework and installed lego blocks in a retaining wall.

Gravity is creating an environmentally focused commercial development near Bridgwater and Towens has supported them in recycling precious metals and importing recycled soils and aggregates.

Gravity has been preparing its site near Bridgwater for development and as a part of that it extracted large quantities of underground cables. Gravity recognised that the treatment of the cable would produce both the potential opportunity for the recovery of precious metals in the cables but also a risk around the disposal of the hazardous elements.

Towens was able to develop a solution with Gravity that enabled the cables to be safely stripped on site, with local labour, using specialist equipment. The copper, lead and steel were separated and the hazardous tar paper isolated and disposed of. Enhancements to the 12th hole

Towens supported the golf club in its applications for planning and waste recovery permissions allowing for the importation of non-hazardous soil to reprofile the existing fairway and formation of a new dune.

Burnham and Berrow golf course is a top rated links course situated within Berrow Dunes SSSI. There was a requirement from the club to make substantial improvements to the 12th hole. The club employed international golf course achitects Mackenzie & Ebert to design the improvements to the hole. Towens worked closely with the club in obtaining planning permission and the required environmental permits.

We managed the project, performing the works with the course staying open the whole time. The native organic plant species and sand were set aside for reinstatement after the clean naturally occurring soils were imported to create the specified dune shapes which were then stabilised with Marram grass plugs.

We recognised that as the business expanded and the number of vehicles grew that it was becoming increasingly important to be able to properly control the maintenance of our vehicles and the time that they need to be off the road. We established Towens Fleet Services as a separate company, built a bespoke two-pit maintenance garage big enough to fit artics inside and over the years have invested in the equipment and testing that they can provide.
